Similar to math tubs, the math partner games I use are two-player games that reinforce a variety of math skills, including problem solving and logical thinking. The games are open-ended and easily differentiated and individualized. Are math partner games the same as math centers? It depends on your definition. Typically in my classroom, partner game time is separate from center time because centers are independent activities while math games are multi-player and encourage discussion and collaborative problem solving.
However, if you have students complete math centers cooperatively, then math partner games would be a perfect fit!

Saturday, 7 July Introduction to Guided Math I know I’m leaving on vacation today, but I started writing this post last night and just had to get it out today! I am so excited about guided math!! This year I am venturing into something new. I really want to move away from teaching math as a whole group to teaching it in small groups.

When you live in the great white north, you have to like winter even just a little bit. So, in the spirit of one my favorite seasons, I created math center activities for kindergarten and first grade. This bundle is jam packed with 12 hands-on winter-themed activities for your kiddos. Play Doh mats are one of my favorite hands-on activities for introducing basic number concepts. The trick is to make the doh using either alum or cream of tartar and the recipes that have you cook the ingratiates are the best.
